A Press Officer is required within the Communications & Engagement department at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) to work closely with the Media Manager and Social Media & Press Office Coordinator in our busy press team.

Working on diverse topics such as maternal health, climate change, vaccines, and disease outbreak response the candidate will have exceptional media and communications skills. Reporting to the Media Manager, the post-holder will use LSHTM’s world-leading research and expertise to generate national, international and trade media coverage through news stories, features, thought-leadership pieces and engaging social media content.

The post-holder will use their strong news sense and understanding of the media landscape to secure proactive coverage, and lead on reactive comment and interview requests from high-profile UK and global media outlets. They will support LSHTM staff with all aspects of media engagement including fully researching opportunities and conducting mock interviews.

This position requires experience of working in media and communications within a health or science environment, a thorough understanding of the UK and global media landscape, ability to prioritise, work to tight deadlines and cope well under pressure. The post is full-time 35 hours per week, 1.0 FTE and permanent.

The salary will be on the Professional Services scale Grade 5 in the range £37,531-£42,875 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro-rata for part-time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London.
